Greater Toronto Chess League's New Website

Torontochess.ca now serves as your new home for all news related to chess in Toronto.

The Greater Toronto Chess League has successfully completed the migration to its new website here at https://torontochess.ca/. We encourage all visitors to use this site for further updates and news regarding the latest in Toronto chess. The previous website at https://torontochess.org/ is no longer in operation.

New Features

A few features of the new website include:

  1. Clubs List: Active GTCL-recognized clubs are now listed under the Clubs section. Each club's most recent GTCL-sanctioned event can be found on their respective page (for instance, the Annex Chess Club).
  2. Tournaments List: All upcoming and recently completed events can be found under Tournaments. Each tournament listed is a GTCL-sanctioned event linked to a recognized club.
  3. News Posts: The latest news in Toronto chess is now published under News. In addition, all posts spanning back to 2015 from legacy GTCL websites have been archived here.
  4. About the GTCL: A revamped About section containing details on the GTCL Board, its Constitution, and the History of the Toronto Closed.
  5. Contact Email: All questions regarding the GTCL and its activities can be emailed toinfo@torontochess.ca.

New Communication Initiatives

A number of new communication initiatives are planned throughout 2026–2027, focusing on building and centralizing content through this website to increase the visibility of GTCL tournaments.

The main priorities are:

  • Prompt Event Publishing: Publishing events throughout the year as soon as information is confirmed (for instance, the upcoming 2026 Toronto Open).
  • Special Feature News: Highlighting milestones (e.g., new masters from GTA clubs), such as the recent accomplishments of GM-elect Anthony Atanasov.
  • Post-Event Summaries: Encouraging organizers to provide a quick, one-page post-event summary of their GTCL-sanctioned events. Including details like winners and photos will benefit organizers, the GTCL, and help share knowledge for future iterations of our events.
