Barev Centre's Toronto Chess Rapid is coming this fall!

The Barev Centre, a Canadian-Armenian community centre in Toronto, invites all players in the GTA chess community to be part of a one-day rapid tournament open to all on Sunday, October 18, 2026 from 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 pm at the Holy Trinity Armenian Church, M. Artinian Hall, 920 Progress Ave, Toronto.
This tournament is a continuation of the organization's “Chess to Remember” tournament series, which was paused during the COVID years. The intention is to revive the event and, going forward, hold tournaments at different churches and community centres, including both Armenian and non-Armenian venues.
Tournament Details
- 6-round Swiss, 15 min + 5 sec/move
- Rated (CFC) and Unrated sections
- $3,000 in prizes, trophies and medals (estimated)
- GM/WGM and IM/WIM play free
- Early bird until October 1: $50 rated / $25 unrated
- Tournament Director: Lee Hendon.
- Free parking is available.
- Plan for top five boards to be broadcasted.

From organizer Stephan Tonakanian: The broader goal of the event is not only to bring competitive chess back to our community after several years, but also to create an event that brings together players from different backgrounds, ages, churches, and communities. While this year's tournament is being hosted by an Armenian church and continues a tradition that began within the Canadian-Armenian community, our goal is for the tournament to be open, welcoming, and increasingly broader in its reach.
