GTCL Toronto Junior Chess Championship

Date: October 4th and 5th, 2025

Location: 1444 Dundas Crescent, Mississauga, Ontario, L5C 1E7

Eligibility: GTA resident junior players born in 2005 or later

*Players from surrounding areas are eligible to participate, but only GTA residents can be crowned 2025 Toronto Junior Champion.

Registered Players: Player List

Capacity: 120 players

Time Control: 60 minutes + 30 seconds 

Format: 5 Rounds Swiss 

Sections: Open, U1800, U1300 and U800 Section 

Ratings: All sections will be CFC rated. Open and U1800 sections will also be FIDE rated. If there is a player with a FIDE Standard Rating exceeding 2400, the Open section will be only CFC-rated due to time control constraints. Sections will be combined if there are not enough players.

Play Up: Extra $10 to play up a section. Playing up is allowed only for players within 100 rating points of the section’s minimum rating. 

Schedule: Round 1 – Saturday 10 am

                   Round 2 - Saturday 2 pm

                   Round 3 - Saturday 6 pm

                   Round 4 - Sunday 2 pm

                   Round 5 - Sunday 6 pm


Forfeit Time: 30 minutes

Byes: two half point byes in rounds 1-3 if requested before round 1; zero-point bye in rounds 4 and 5.

  2. Buchholz Cut 1
  3. Buchholz 


Entry Fees: $60 

                      $50 (MCC Member)

                      Free (GM, IM, WGM, FM, WIM, CM, WFM, WCM)

Prize: The top three finishers in each section will be awarded trophies. The top female finisher in each section will be awarded a trophy. 

Equipment: MCC will supply all the chess equipment.

Parking: Free parking in the front and back parking lot
